For my fellow Americans, daylight savings time started this past weekend—and it properly kicked me into a new dimension. I couldn’t fall asleep on Sunday, couldn’t stay awake on Monday; my circadian rhythm is all out of whack because we Americans like to play God and bend the rules of time.
I’ve groped about these semi-annual time changes many times before, but with each passing year it takes my body an additional 3-5 business days to bounce back into functionality.
I know I’m not supposed to whine; yes we get more daylight hours, yes the sun now sets at a respectable 7:30 pm instead of 5, and yes these are the signs and signals of an upcoming summertime filled with warmth and joy.
But if you’re anything like me, a sensitive sally who loves routine and predefined bedtimes, I know you’re going through some dog days right now.
Hang in there, dear reader. Warmer days are ahead of us.
